Well, the time is finally here. Time to run 48.6 miles in four days. I left the cold wet/rainy/snowy/icy place I like to call the DC Metro on Saturday night around 11:30pm on my long drive to Florida.
I had intended on leaving later in the night/early in the morning but weather was starting to move in and I wanted to be sure I got outta there before the roads got messy. I drove straight through overnight and made it to Orlando around 12:15 Sunday afternoon. Up until today (Wednesday) I had been staying at a dear friends house that lives in the area spending some much needed time catching up with her and working out of her office in downtown Orlando for a couple of days. This morning, when she and her husband left for work, I headed out to check into my Disney resort. Since they provide transportation to all of the parks/races, it's infinitely easier to stay at one of their resorts. I quickly located a Starbucks nearby since I hadn't had any coffee in over a week and arrived at my resort quite early, 8:45am actually. But, thankfully, Disney had my room ready so I could drop everything in the room and head out to the expo for a little bit of volunteering and pick up my packet for the races. Even though it's the first day of the expo, anyone doing the Dopey Challenge or even just the 5k race by itself HAD to pick up their packet from the expo today, so it was pretty crowded already.
Even with all the people, I got my stuff and bought a wine glass (it's a ritual, even though I very rarely drink I get a glass from each race), a mug for my mom, my Dopey Challenge decal for my car and a Dopey Challenge collectible pin. I'm sucker for this stuff. Plus, the new Magic+ wristbands at Disney make it dangerously easy to spend money...it's a wristband that acts as your room key but you can also charges items to your room using a pin number.
A little preview of the medal I will earn by the end of the weekend, this is exactly what the pin looks like that I got.
So. Many. Shirts.
New Disney wristbands, so far so good. :) This acts as your room key, charges purchases and food to your room (even in the parks), and holds your park tickets on it.
Tomorrow morning at 6am is when the first race kicks off. Check back soon, because race number one is when I will be wearing the costume my oldest niece, Hannah, selected. Pluto the dog. It works out perfect since the first race is the Family Run 5k and the medal is Pluto.
